I had planned to have it done at the little community hospital in my home town of Rumford, but they declined, saying I had too many serious health problems to make it safe there. Central Maine Medical Center has the staff and facilities to do open heart surgery if needed.
God willing, it will be done in early August, be benign and not interfere with clergy weekend.
Please feel free to share this with the Charismatic comunity in Chattanooga as I would obviously appreciate prayers.
I officially retire from the Associated Press, from which I have been on medical leave since 1994, on Monday. They gave me a buyout that will allow a move to Chattanooga, and for that I am grateful.
Assuming the surgery goes as planned, I will put my house on the market and, as soon as it sells, head to the Volunteer State.
My major hobby is target shooting, and several members of the Kel-Tec owners group, an e-mail list to which I belong, are satisfied residents of Tennessee and have spoken in favor of the move. So has my cousin, Sean, in Dublin, and my lung specialist. Even my lawyer said there are too many bad memories here in Rumford and too few friends. He also endorsed the move.
So as soon as I can, I will be Chattanooga bound.

I've already "met" Deacon Hillis and we're facebook buddies. Of course, I know several others of the brothers and sisters.
Chattanoga is at the top of my list, but I've still got to get cleared _ or not _ to drive again, and I have a lump in my colon the docs do NOT think is cancer, but it still must be removed.
And then I've got to unload my house in this especially horrible real etate market in Rumford, Maine. It's bad because the NewPage paper mill, the largest employer, is laying people off.
If clergy weekend is in Tennessee I'm going and might spend some exta days getting the lay of the land.
Thank you again, Your Excellency.
